A resident of the Greenville neighborhood in Ward F, Anthony Sharperson was born and raised in Jersey City. During his childhood he developed a fondness for sports; he excelled and was gifted the nickname “Sport”. He attended Marist High School where he was a student athlete. He received a full scholarship to Fordham University and later graduated from New Jersey City University with a BA in Sociology and a certification in Elementary Education and Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counseling. His devotion to youth and education propelled him to become a substitute teacher with Jersey City Public School system and an Assistant Football Coach at Henry Snyder High School.
Anthony’s desire to serve his community has always been reflective in his career choices. He was a Verizon Technician for 15 years, of which during that time, he also served as a union representative. Anthony has been a proud Jersey City Firefighter since 2011. Additionally, he is the current owner of Cherry’s Lounge which has been owned by his family for over 30 years in the Greenville community. As neighborhood reinvestment is at the heart of his business philosophy, he has consistently participated and sponsored various youth leagues and other community organizations.
Anthony is running for a one-year term for Jersey City School Board to share his commitment, desire and compassion for the youth of Jersey City and to continue to uplift the entire city.
